Understanding Wage Garnishments
When you have creditors trying to come in and take your money to repay some outstanding debts that you just haven't been able to pay back, you need to understand the situation. Wage garnishment can be a difficult situation to go through, no matter what the circumstances may be.
Wage garnishment can be defined as someone taking money out of your paycheck before you officially receive it because of a debt that that you owe. In some states, a few creditors are allowed to do this because the person may have an outstanding debt that has been in default for a certain amount of time. According to Florida statutes, however, if the person makes at least 50% of the income in the home, the creditors are not legally allowed to take out any amount of money no matter what the circumstances are. In this way, Florida state laws prevent creditors from penalizing a whole family for the debts of one person.
Although wage garnishment may seem like a complicated concept, the most important part to understand is that if you make the majority of the money in the home, you are automatically protected from any wage garnishment that the creditors might try to force on you. This, in some cases, can be the only way to protect your family.
