How Money Orders Work
Most purchases online use credit cards or Paypal to secure payment transactions. Some sellers, however, request that buyers send a money order to ensure payment before they ship the purchased item. Because money orders function in the same way as cash, sellers can redeem their money immediately on receipt; whereas, with checks and credit card purchases, the buyer can cancel the payment if they suspect a scam.
When you send a money order, there is no way to retrieve the lost money. You must rely on the good faith of the seller to ship you the product; however, if you are being scammed, this is unlikely. You may lose hundreds of dollars and never receive the product you purchased.
